Boat maintenance log

A boat maintenance log that remembers what you did and when it is due again

Service history, parts, manuals and the next due date for every engine, pump and system aboard — on the phone you already carry, with the record kept on the device.

Most boat maintenance logs fail the same way. The opening month is meticulous. By the third, the impeller change is somewhere between a notebook, a receipt in the glove box and a text to your brother-in-law.

A log that works has to be quicker than not writing it down, and it has to tell you what is due, not just what is done. AFTWISE keeps a record for each piece of equipment and schedules its next service by engine hours, by date, or by both.

What goes in the log

One page for each engine, pump, filter and system

  • Identity — maker, model, serial number, the date it came aboard, and where it lives
  • Service history — every job, the date, the engine hours, who did it and what it cost
  • Scheduled maintenance — by date or by engine hours, so an oil change due at 250 hours is not forgotten because the calendar says nothing
  • Manuals and documents — the PDF attached to the unit, readable offline
  • Parts — the impeller, belt, filter and anode, kept as spares linked to the unit, with the supplier and the quantity to reorder
  • Photos and warranty — the data-plate photo you take once, the purchase price and the warranty expiry
Finding it again

Scan the label, find the record

Print a QR label, stick it on the unit, and the record is wherever the equipment is. Point your phone at it in the engine room and the history, manual and parts come up on the device, with no signal needed.

  • Home shows what needs attention
  • Alerts and the Calendar list what is due, expiring or overdue, beside your trips and document renewals
  • Backup and export are available on every plan, so the log is not locked inside the app

Common questions

Questions about a boat maintenance log

What should a boat maintenance log include?

For each system: what it is, what was done, when, at what engine hours, who did it, what it cost, and when the next service is due. Add the manual, the part numbers and a photo of the data plate, and you can answer most questions without hunting.

Can I schedule maintenance by engine hours?

Yes. Each maintenance item can be due by date, by engine hours, or by both. Hours come off the engine meters, and the meters move whenever you record ending hours. Closing out a trip is the usual way that happens.

Does it work without a signal?

Your record lives on your device, so reading it and adding to it does not need a signal. Features that look something up, such as marine weather, need a connection.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no AFTWISE account, no sign-in and no password. Your records stay on your devices, and in your own iCloud while sync is on; Aftwise, LLC holds no copy of them.

Is it a navigation aid?

No. AFTWISE is a recordkeeping tool. It does not replace charts, navigation equipment, manufacturer instructions or your own judgment.
